Body-Centered Psychotherapy Association Celebrates Merger
SAN DIEGO (CA) – The San Diego Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (SDIBA) and The Southern California Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (SCIBA) integrated effective March 1, 2009. SCIBA will be headquartered in San Diego. The integration will further efforts to promote Bioenergetic Analysis and advance the awareness and teaching of body centered therapy in Southern California.
"We are all excited about the integration,' says SCIBA Executive Director, Garet Bedrosian, LCSW. "We have an active training program in San Diego. There is an increasing interest in body/mind psychotherapies and combining the energies and resources from these two institutes will offer the best possible experience for our students and clients."
Bioenergetic Analysis is a form of psychotherapy that blends traditional therapeutic methods with body-oriented techniques to help people enhance their well being. Symptoms of unhappiness and stress, such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and decreased sexuality, are often the result of repressed emotions and chronic muscular tensions. Working directly with the body helps relieve these tensions and release blocked expression. Bioenergetic Therapy, which generally includes both talking and working with the body, increases a person's ability to give and receive love, and ultimately to experience more joy and pleasure in life.
"People often tell me Bioenergetics changed their lives," said Bedrosian, "The body and mind are connected and when you want to work through emotional stuckness, trauma, depression, anxiety, or addictions you need to include the body in the healing. Making the issues come alive in the therapy room allows us to experience the corrective healing process and consequently integrates it in a more thorough way."
SCIBA is a recognized affiliate of the International Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA) founded by Dr. Alexander Lowen, in 1956. There are 57 societies and institutes practicing the work of Bioenergetics around the world.
The Institute provides theoretical and clinical training programs for psychotherapists and offers ongoing supervision, consultation, and advanced workshops for clinicians and people interested in body therapy. SCIBA also offers referrals to Bioenergetic therapists who have completed the training program and are members of SCIBA.
